Cars That Get Over 30 Mpg and Can Fit 3 Car Seats
The nutrition is going well, cheers for asking. Merely even when I hit my goal (weighing what I did when I got married), I nevertheless won't be a slender homo.
I am half-dozen' 1", and at the moment counterbalance more than 350 pounds. The programme is for there to exist at least 100 pounds less of me by this fourth dimension adjacent year. Wish me luck. Still, even at my target mass, I will exist a big guy, which, I believe, qualifies me to speak on behalf of large guys everywhere.
Predictably, there are cars I accept a tough fourth dimension driving comfortably, though not as many every bit you might think. There are a few cars I can't (or won't effort to) squeeze into at all. I did sample the Pontiac Solstice dorsum in the day, and remain rather glad in that location is no video of me attempting to escape from that diminutive sports car.
For me–and I imagine other guys similar me–the trouble spots are these:
- Entry and Exit (example: 4-door BMWs, Lexus GS and IS)
- Shoulder Room (example: about subcompacts, many compacts)
- Gut Room (example: Jeep Wrangler)
- Seat-belt length (example: Jeep Wrangler, Ford Fiesta)
As I realize my size puts me in a rather pocket-size segment of the population, I rarely comment on cabin space when reviewing a vehicle. Here, however, I would like to call out iii vehicles that I found to be especially comfortable.
As most trucks and crossovers are, past pattern, a little more all-around of larger folk, I am sticking with cars hither. Lookout man for a follow-up slice that deals with compact crossovers and the like onetime presently.

Small Car: Kia Soul
This character-packed box on wheels scores on all four counts noted in a higher place, specially shoulder room. A "four Tom" vehicle, the spacious Soul would easily accommodate four adults my size in comfort, though even the Soul's larger 2.0-liter engine would likely strain under such a load.
Honorable Mentions
- Honda Fit (chair-like seating, high roof)
- Nissan Cube (roomier than Soul, less fun to drive)
Avoid
- Ford Fiesta (Low seating, small doors, express steering-wheel adjustability)
- Mazda 2 (ditto)

Midsize Motorcar: Honda Accordance
Most every automobile in this class gets the task done, only the Accordance is only roomier. A huge door opening allows large guys to feel like kids once again, and a generous dollop of steering bike adjustability allows for quondam-school big-coupe-style comfort. A squeamish bonus is all the rear-seat legroom remaining even after the front seat is pushed about of the way back.
Honorable Mentions
- 2015 Subaru Legacy (Almost Accord-like large-guy comfort)
- Volkswagen Passat (ditto)
Avoid
Dodge Avenger (shoulder room is a trouble)
Test Bulldoze: 2022 Honda Accord Sport
Large Car: Dodge Charger
Consider information technology a midsize car scaled up for big guys, and y'all get the idea. Big door openings, big comfy seats, and all sorts of head and legroom make Charger (and its mechanical sibling Chrysler 300) big-guy rides. Sporty looks and impressive V6 fuel economy are nice bonuses.
Honorable Mentions
- Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Impala (vast legroom, simply low seat superlative and smallish door complicate getting in and out.)
- Hyundai Genesis (a close 2d to Charger)
Avoid
- Ford Taurus (giant center console intrudes on hip space)
